Automotive Drive Shaft Materials-Introduction
Commonly used shaft materials are 35, 45, 50 carbon steel, of which 45 steel is widely used. For smaller or less important load shaft can also be used Q235, Q255 and other ordinary carbon steel. For large force, large axial size, weight restrictions or some special requirements can be used alloy steel. Such as 40Cr alloy steel can be used for medium precision, high-speed work occasions, the material has good comprehensive mechanical properties after tempering; select Cr15, 65Mn alloy steel can be used for high precision, poor working conditions, these materials after tempering and surface quenching of its wear resistance, fatigue strength performance is better; if the shaft parts work in high speed, heavy load conditions, can choose 20Cr, 20CrMnTi, 20Mn2B low carbon steel or 38CrMoA1A carburizing steel, these steels after carburizing quenching or nitriding treatment, not only has a high surface hardness, and the core strength is also greatly improved, so it has good wear resistance, impact toughness and fatigue strength performance. Ductile iron and high-strength cast iron are often used to manufacture shafts with complex shapes and structures due to their good casting properties and damping properties. In particular, the rare earth-magnesium ductile iron developed in China has good impact toughness, but also has the advantages of anti-friction, vibration absorption, low sensitivity to stress concentration, and has been used to manufacture important shafts on automobiles, tractors, and machine tools.
Automobile drive shaft material-composition
The automobile drive shaft is composed of a shaft tube, a telescopic sleeve and a universal joint. The telescopic sleeve can automatically adjust the distance between the transmission and the drive axle. The universal joint is to ensure the change of the angle of the two axes of the transmission output shaft and the drive axle input shaft, and realize the equiangular transmission of the two shafts. General universal joints are composed of cross shaft, cross bearing and flange fork. The drive shaft universal joints used in Steyr series heavy vehicles adopt roller cross shaft bearings. The cross shaft is short and thick, and can transmit large torque. There is a Belleville spring at the end of the bearing to compress the roller. A reinforced nylon gasket with a spiral groove is added to the end face of the cross shaft to prevent sintering during power transmission at large angles or large turns.
